School Introduction

Since 1988, Canadian International College (CIC) has been providing innovative academic programs for international students.

CIC provides an academically stimulating, safe and comfortable learning environment for international students. Our beautifully landscaped campus situated on 6.5 acres is a place where students study in a quiet and secure park-like setting. Close to the ocean and mountains, students are still only minutes away from the busy metropolitan and multicultural city of Vancouver.

Our campus facilities include a 320 bed student residence, cafeteria, gymnasium and tennis court. Extracurricular programs and services provide a supportive and fun community, which fosters personal growth and development.

CIC offers a university transfer program: the Liberal Arts Diploma program consists of 20 courses, completed in a minimum of 16 months. Prior to taking the diploma program, students complete an Academic Bridge semester, designed to prepare students with the academic English and research skills necessary to succeed in a North American university setting. If students need to improve their English language skills and increase their TOEFL score, they spend one or more semesters in the levelled Academic English program.

CIC has transfer credit arrangements with a number of universities whereby students receive up to 60 credits towards a bachelor's degree.

CIC was the first private college to be accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (formerly the Post Secondary Educational Commission) in the Province of British Columbia.

ESL Program Introduction

The Academic Bridge program is the foundation which prepares students for success in university transfer courses. Students develop their English language skills. To assist with preparation for university transfer, students also focus on research, academic writing and computer applications.

The Academic English Program focuses on English language development and TOEFL preparation. Each level is 15 weeks long, and includes 30 hours of class time per week. During this program, students are expected to achieve up to a 50 point increase in their TOEFL score. Students may spend one or more semesters in the leveled courses.

The language development courses use an integrated skills approach to improve fluency; TOEFL test preparation courses provide practice for discrete skills and strategies for language learning and test taking.

A comprehensive student life orientation program, along with a good support network and activities provides students with a foundation in community living. Separate men's and women's residences ensure privacy and security while providing students with a comfortable living environment. Residence rooms are comfortably furnished and are wired for network and Internet access. Each residence also offers laundry facilities, washrooms, telephones and student lounges. Experienced students become Residence Advisors and help to make residences fun, rewarding and safe living environments.
